Floral masterpiece for Old Masters

Volunteer florist Barbara Shelley puts the finishing touches to a display for this weekend’s Florabundance Festival at Chatsworth House, seat of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.

Floral designer Jonathon Moseley has chosen a “tulips and tropical” theme and says that creating installations surrounded by Old Masters at the Peak District stately home has stretched his creativity.

Mr Moseley said: “The floral arrangements have to be larger than life and of a scale which reflects the magnificence of their grand surroundings.

“The multitude of flowers breathe a life and vigour into the stately paradise of Chatsworth’s lavish interior that creates a lasting vision, where a Rembrandt can act as a backdrop to a humble display of transient floral art.”

Florabundance runs until Tuesday, May 10 and Mr Moseley will be giving a series of flower-arranging workshops.
