Five arrested over property sales

FIVE people have been arrested over allegations of fraud and money laundering in connection with the sale of retirement homes at Lakeminster Park in Beverley.

A man aged 50 from Wilmslow, Cheshire, a 52-year-old woman from South Cave, a man aged 64 from Beverley, and a woman aged 31 from Beverley were arrested on suspicion of fraud yesterday, along with a 47-year-old Wilmslow woman who was arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

Humberside Police said the arrests followed a lengthy investigation and all those arrested have since been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Residents at the park have been at the centre of a long-running dispute over whether they can live there permanently or not, with East Riding Council insisting the homes are for holiday use only.

The council served enforcement notices last September, which were appealed by some recipients.

A Government planning inquiry is due to begin at County Hall in Beverley on June 4 in a bid to resolve the dispute.
