Firm faces £500,000 bill after spate of fire attacks

ARSONISTS have caused more than £500,000 of damage at a Yorkshire business during a spate of attacks in the last month, police said yesterday.

Thomas Crompton, a construction company based on Neville Road, Bradford, and its plant equipment were subject to a series of fire attacks and criminal damage between June 12 and June 22.

Vehicles parked inside the firm's grounds had tyres slashed causing around 40,000 of damage between 4pm on Saturday, June 12 and 7am on Sunday, June 13.

Machinery belonging to Thomas Crompton, parked on a demolition site on Low Hall Road, Menston, was damaged by fire, causing around 50,000 of damage between 9pm on Thursday, June 17 and 12.30am on Friday, June 18.

A blaze which damaged part of the building at the company's base on Neville Road was reported on Sunday, June 20.

On Tuesday, June 22, at around 2am a fire was reported at a building site on Water Lane, Halifax. The machinery on site belonged to Thomas Crompton and around 330,000 of damage was caused.

Det Insp Ian Bryar said: "We are treating these attacks on a local business very seriously."
