Festival’s £40,000 boost for charity

organisers of a huge beer and music festival yesterday revealed they had raised a record breaking £40,000 for charity at their last event, and unveiled plans for a Wild West-themed follow up.

The four-day Rotherham Real Ale and Music Festival attracted more than 11,000 in February with drinkers getting through about 45,000 pints of real ale, ciders, lagers and perries.

Stephen Burns, who leads the festival team, said that after paying all the bills a surplus of £40,000 was available, giving four charities an equal share of £10,000 each.

The money will now be sent to the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity in Sheffield, Rotherham Hospice, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and the Magna Educational Trust which runs the Magna Centre where the festival is run.

Mr Burns said next year’s event will take place from February 27 until March 2 and added: “We don’t want to rest on our laurels.

“We are already searching for volunteers and sponsors for next year’s event.”
