Failing school now making progress

A failing Yorkshire school which the Government wants to close as soon as possible is making satisfactory progress according to its latest Ofsted inspection.

David Lister School, in Hull, was scheduled for closure in 2014 but councillors have agreed to bring this forward to 2012 because of the falling number of pupils, difficulties in recruiting teachers, and its failure adequately to improve standards of teaching and learning.

Ofsted said the school in Rustenberg Street can now recruit newly-qualified teachers.
