Explorer Fiennesin three-car crash

Adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes was left dazed and bloodied after his Jaguar apparently swerved into the opposite carriageway and hit a Nissan Micra, then a Ford Focus.

Sir Ranulph, 66 yesterday, was taken to hospital after the accident in Stockport, Greater Manchester, on Saturday afternoon.

The male driver of the Nissan suffered leg injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening. A five-year-old child in the vehicle was injured but not seriously.

Police sources said one possible line of inquiry was that Sir Ranulph may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
