Exhibition sets scene for a celebration

Miniature painted sculptures have gone on show at the Peak District's Longshaw Estate, as part of a touring exhibition by artist Sally Sheinman.

The display, called "Let's Celebrate", is touring five National Trust sites across the region and opened at the Longshaw Estate on Saturday. A National Trust spokesman said: "This specially-commissioned artwork unites a celebration of the National Trust and its treasures with the mounting celebration and excitement surrounding the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"At each venue a number of large white tables will be set as if for a banquet. But, instead of food and wine, guests and visitors will see tables laden with miniature painted sculptures.

"Sally Sheinman has created over 250 of these exquisitely-crafted objects from painted Perspex and adorned them with Japanese rice paper garlands.

The spokesman added: "The sculptures are offered as inspiration to visitors, who are invited to add a written response to the installation, reflecting whatever they wish to celebrate, from the personal to the universal."

Lets Celebrate will remain on show at the Longshaw Estate until Sunday, August 1.
