Eureka! Five fall pregnant at museum

A BABY boom at a Yorkshire museum nursery has seen almost a third of staff announce they are expecting.

Five of the 16 full-time staff working in the nursery at Eureka!, the national children’s museum in Halifax, are all expecting children of their own in the next six months.

Four of the expectant mums, Salma Kauser, Stacey Nicholl, Salma Kausar, and Claire Lancaster, are child care staff, working with children up to five years.

The fifth, Rebecca Johnson, is the director of play and learning at Eureka! and has overall responsibility for the nursery.

Sandra Thompson, the head of the nursery, said: “In any organisation it would be unusual for over a quarter of the staff to be pregnant, so there really must be something in the water here in the nursery.

“Our staff love their jobs and really bond with all of the children here, so it’s not a shock when someone announces a pregnancy. It’s just five at once that’s the surprise!”

The nursery is now looking to recruit staff to cover maternity leave.
