Epic charity runner eyes finishing line

A CHARITY runner from North Yorkshire has hit the home straight of an “epic run” in which he will have notched up 50 miles a day for 50 days.

Former Royal Navy serviceman Sam Boatwright, 29, who is today beginning day 41, has completed a staggering 2,050 miles but has another 450 to go before he finishes in Skipton on Saturday May 26.

He began the huge challenge in Blackpool on April 6 and is now in South Wales, with his run having taken him on a journey around the coasts of England, Scotland and Wales. Mr Boatwright, who works as a personal trainer in Skipton and lives in nearby Silsden, is raising money for the Help for Heroes charity which helps injured servicemen and women.

Speaking this week, he said: “My body has been screaming for me to stop. My hamstrings and knees didn’t feel like they have loosened all day. I cannot believe I have run 2,000 miles.”

Mr Boatwright had originally intended to do the run with his friend Matt Spears, who plays for Skipton Rugby Club, but Mr Spears had to pull out.
