VIDEO: Scotsman wins Cock o’The North

Scotsman Douglas Duffin won the Cock ‘O the North showjumping competition after a thrilling afteroon of top class showjumping.

The Scot narrowly edged the close-fought contest which saw four riders from four nations do battle for the title.

Mr Duffin was riding Richard Jenkinson’s Quidam BZ in the very last round of the competition.

With just four through to the second jump off, the packed grandstand saw Simon Buckley on Wordsworth II for England, Ireland’s Billy Twomey on Tinka’s Serenade and last year’s winner Robert Bevis, from Wales, on Courtney Z, along with Mr Duffin, take on the demanding jump-off course which included the famous Cock O’ the North double of walls.

Mr Duffin was just half a second faster than Robert Bevis to take the £8,000 first prize, with Billy Twomey jumping clear to finish third.

The Cock o’the North Showjumping Championship is the most prestigious show jumping competition within the Great Yorkshire Show. It attracts international names from the equestrian world and never fails to provide a superb climax to three days of excitement through the qualifying classes. The Main Ring is the setting for the competition.

The famous Silver Cockerel Trophy is made by jewellers, James R. Ogden and Sons Limited.
