Union’s fears over the impact of food imports

BADGER culling could cost farmers more than an outbreak of bovine TB, according to the RSPCA.

In an analysis of Defra proposals for a cull, timed for the NFU conference, the charity pointed out that farmers in cull areas would be liable for all costs and concluded: “Some could end up spending more money over a four-year period than an incident of bovine TB might cost them.”

The RSPCA is among a number of animal charities who are opposed to the cull.
