Elite athletes offered free facilities

TALENTED athletes are being offered the chance to use council-run sports facilities free of charge for a year.

Those chosen for the Craven Council scheme can use the facilities at Craven Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre in Skipton to help them compete at a regional to national level.

Coun Linda Brockbank, Craven Council’s lead member for empowering communities, said: “The council welcomes the opportunity to help our budding athletes. We are aware that access to quality training facilities is essential for any athlete and therefore we are happy to make sure the council’s facilities are available for use by our athletes.”

The scheme is open to anyone in the district who is over 16 and part of a home nation team; over 14 and listed in the top 10 of any national group ranking; selected as part of an official national training squad or programme, or a member of a current regional team. There are currently 14 athletes living in Craven who benefit from free use of the facilities.

Applications for 2013 must be made by January 11.
