Double shooting shocks Sheffield residents

Coun Jack Scott spoke out after two shooting incidents in his ward, Arbourthorne in Sheffield.

In the first incident a man is thought to have got out of a Skoda Octavia and fired two shots from a pistol at a group of men on Aylward Road at 1.25pm on Friday.

No-one was injured. The gunman got back into the car and left the area.

Police described this attack as targeted.

At 5.15pm on Friday a 28-year-old local man was injured when shots were fired at his black BMW 120 coupe in Park Grange Road. The driver’s door and window were damaged.

A second car, an Audi A3, is thought to have been involved.

Police said the shootings were unconnected.

Coun Scott said it was not helpful to speculate on whether the shootings were linked to drug gangs or something similar.

“Until we know more, we can’t infer anything. I will be going out later to talk to people and to encourage them to come forward.

“At this stage there is no suggestion these people (involved in the shootings) are from the Arbourthorne area.”

A police spokesman appealed for any information on both gun crimes.

They said the Skoda may have been bearing taxi plates.

“Police would like to speak with the group of males who were stood on Aylward Road when the incident occurred or any other witnesses and police also want to locate the silver Skoda Octavia.”

There have been similar incidents across Sheffield this year.

On New Year’s Day a man was shot in the shoulder and an 18-year-old was injured in a separate shooting. Several arrests have been made.
