Doctor jailed over death may be struck off

A DOCTOR faces being struck off just over a year after he was jailed for the manslaughter of a patient.

Lisa Quinn, 37, a mother-of-two, died in 2008 after three days of treatment for a kidney infection over a Bank Holiday weekend at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Consultant urologist Sudhanshu Garg breached his duty of care in failing to properly investigate and recognise the severity of her illness which was life-threatening without emergency treatment.

Garg later tried to cover up his failings by altering medical notes.

He was jailed for two years in May last year after admitting gross negligence manslaughter.

Yesterday a Fitness to Practise Panel of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service ruled that his fitness to practise was “impaired”.

The panel is expected to decide today what action to take. They can remove Garg from the medical register, suspend him, place conditions on his registration or decide to take no further action
