Divers wait to hunt for missing man

POLICE divers are hoping to join the search for missing York accountant Chris Baker next week.

The regional underwater search team used sonar equipment to scour the River Ouse on Sunday, but North Yorkshire Police said conditions were too dangerous for divers and they would have to wait until water levels fell.

Mr Baker, 29, of Albemarle Road, York, has not been seen since suddenly abandoning his car in York city centre on 7.15am on Thursday, December 20.

He “gestured” to a woman in the car behind him before jumping over a wall on the banks of the river.

Mr Baker was on his way to Hull where he works as an accountant for the City Health Care Partnership, although he is originally from Wales.

City Health Care Partnership chief executive Andrew Burnell said: “Chris is a valuable and well liked member of the corporate team here at City Health Care Partnership and we were all shocked to learn of his disappearance.”

He added: “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time and we will continue to hope for his safe return.”
