Detectives face sack over fellow
officer’s abuse

Plain-clothes detective Jeffrey Davies, 42, was convicted of the twin sex assaults yesterday which South Wales Police condemned as “a gross abuse”.

Davies was cleared by the Swansea Crown Court jury of a third charge of exposing himself to another female crime victim in 2011.

The once respected CID officer has been released on bail but has been warned that he will return to the same court on August 15 to receive a jail term.

Davies, who dismissed the charges against him in court as “absolute nonsense”, was based at Merthyr Tydfil police station when the sex assaults happened in 2010.

Two senior CID colleagues who oversaw him at work are now both due to face South Wales Police (SWP) internal hearings for gross misconduct.

Detective Inspector Phillip Camm and Detective Sergeant Richard Jones could both be sacked if the serious allegation they each face is upheld.
