Death of man found in pond in park “not suspicious”

Police have recovered a body from a pond in a park after it was spotted around lunchtime today.

It is believed the body had been in the water in Queens Gardens in the city centre for several days before being spotted this lunchtime.

A cordon was lifted three hours after the initial report of the body, near the Wilson Centre, at 1.23pm.

Police said: “Police resources including the Underwater Search Unit attended and a man’s body was recovered from the water.

“The man has not been formally identified but following initial enquiries his death is not being treated as suspicious.”

A file is being prepared for the coroner.
