Dales photos help conserve landscapes

IMAGES of the iconic landscapes in the Yorkshire Dales have been helping fund conservation work to protect the world-famous countryside for future generations.

The Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) has produced a charity calendar for next year which includes pictures of landmarks including the Ribblehead Viaduct, the Three Peaks, Bolton Priory and wildflower hay meadows.

The images have been provided for free by local photographers to help raise funds for the charity, which works to support the environmental, social and economic well-being of the Yorkshire Dales.

Designed free of charge by Skipton-based agency Fever Digital as part of its commitment to the Dales, the calendar features images taken by trust supporter Lynne O’Hagan, the YDMT’s Flowers of the Dales project officer, Tanya St Pierre, and Mark Butler, who is a landscape photographer and IT officer at the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA).

Mr Butler is currently producing a book and photography exhibition called Working the View, which brings together Dales scenes hand-picked by people who live or work in the area.

The book will be on sale in the spring of next year and a selection of the images feature in the new calendar, including photos chosen by staff at both the YDMT and the YDNPA.

All money raised through the sale of the calendar will help the YDMT to continue projects across the Yorkshire Dales and beyond, including restoring wildlife habitats such as broadleaf woodlands and wildflower hay meadows as well as education and outreach work.

Money raised through the sales will also fund improvements to access as well as supporting local community groups and businesses.

The calendar is available to buy for £10 including UK delivery either online at www.ydmt.org/shop or by calling 01524 251002.
