Cupid’s love arrow strikes at new Barnsley art exhibition

Love and Devotion will feature fluttering hearts, blossoming romance, blushing cheeks and scenes of devotion, captured in intimate paintings and drawings from the gallery’s fine art collection.

The collection, which will be on display for three months including on St Valentine’s Day, will also depict familial love and affection.

Tracey Hebron, visitor services assistant at the gallery, said visitors can expect a intimate collection of art exploring emotions and feelings.

She said: “The collection will tell stories of love and show how it has been pictured by artists over the centuries.

“It will feature some religious images, as well as paintings based around the themes of faith, hope and reflection.

“We want to invite viewers to really get up close and experience the work.”

Exhibited work will include A Sacrifice to Cupid by Swiss artist Gustave de Beaumont (1851-1922) and Interior With Figures, by Gustave David (1824-1891).

The exhibition launches tomorrow, January 17. It will run until Saturday, April 25, at the gallery on Church Street, Barnsley.
