Sheffield cars fire: More than 50 cars in flames in Sheffield overnight with ten crews on scene

Ten fire crews dealt with a huge blaze in Sheffield overnight involving at least 50 cars and two motorbikes.

Crews attended a large number of vehicles on fire near Parkway Drive, Sheffield in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Residents were warned to avoid the area and keep all windows and doors closed if they lived nearby.

Parkway green watch were first in attendance, backed up by crews from Central, Elm Lane, Birley Moor, Rivelin, Lowedges, Aston Park and Maltby fire stations.

This incident was dealt with by 1.44am, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

More than 50 cars and two motorcycles were involved in the fire.

The cause of the incident has not yet been released.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 11.15pm last night (Tuesday 18 July) following reports that a number of vehicles were on fire at a vehicle compound on Parkway Drive.

“A number of vehicles sustained significant damage but nobody is thought to have been injured.

“It is believed that the fire was started deliberately and an investigation is underway into the arson. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact us online or by calling 101 quoting incident number 1039 of 18 July 2023.”
