Cyclist dies on mother's birthday after fatal Dearne Valley Parkway crash

A cyclist died on his mother's birthday following a fatal crash on the Dearne Valley Parkway in South Yorkshire.

Mr Frost, who has a young son, suffered serious injuries and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Frost's family have paid tribute to him describing him as the "best dad he could ever have been".

In a statement, his family said: "Travis meant the world to us. He was the best dad he could ever have been and his son, Archie, will miss him every day.

"The day Travis died was his mum’s birthday, a day that will never be the same for us again. A day which should have been filled with celebration will now be filled with memories of Travis, and a feeling of loss.

"We thank everyone who has respected our privacy at this difficult time."

The driver of the BMW, a 30-year-old man from Barnsley was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, being unfit through drink or drugs, being over the prescribed limit and driving with no insurance.

A 30-year-old woman, also from Barnsley, who was a passenger in the car was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Both have since been released under investigation.

South Yorkshire Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash, or anyone with dashcam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 1004 of February 23.
