Couple opt for a new garden pond after scooping £2m Lotto

A COUPLE from East Yorkshire have dodged the Budget blues after scooping more than £2m on the Lottery.

As the rest of the country was coming to terms with swingeing cuts, Angela and Colin Brown were celebrating their new status as millionaires.

The couple from Driffield scooped more than 2m on Saturday's Lotto Rollover Jackpot, and said their good fortune could not have come at a better time.

"It means we won't have to worry about paying the bills at the end of the month," said Mr Brown, a self-employed painter and decorator.

Mrs Brown, 55, added: "We definitely feel especially lucky to have won at this time."

The lucky winners said, however, they were just a "normal couple" from a "little village" and would not allow the money to affect them.

Mr Brown, 57, said he would continue working but conceded he would probably scale back the number of hours he works.

Housewife Mrs Brown said the money would allow them to look after their family, and spoil their 15-week-old grandson. The couple have two daughters, Rachel, 32, mother to their grandson, and Sara-Jane, 30.

Mr Brown said: "We're not going to go mad.

"I'm going to buy a new garden pond and we will go on holiday. We are also going to get our grandson some new toys and take him to Disneyland and Lapland."

Mrs Brown was feeding her grandson and getting him ready for bed while her husband watched the end of the National Lottery show when their numbers came up.

She said: "He told me that I had one number, then two and that I might have won 10, and then another number came up and we realised I had all six numbers.

"I thought I had to have the bonus ball as well to win the jackpot, but Colin told me I didn't and we just couldn't believe it."
