Corrie exhibition puts gallery street's ahead of the stars

Photographs taken behind the scenes of Coronation Street have been unveiled for the first time at a West Yorkshire gallery.

Actor Charlie Lawson, who starred in the popular soap opera, yesterday opened the exhibition called Alf's Hat, in honour of one of the Street's best loved residents.

The images are on display in Shipley, which was the home of actor Bryan Mosley who played Alf Roberts in the soap.

Mr Mosley, who died in 1999, was a keen amateur photographer and fellow cast members presented him with a camera when he retired from the show.

Fellow star Sean Wilson borrowed Alf's trademark brown leather trilby and shot a series of photographs of the cast wearing it.

An album of the images was presented to Mrs Mosley which remained private until the actor's widow, Norma, recently gave permission to gallery Shipley Focus'd to use the images.

Alf's hat itself takes pride of place as the centrepiece of the exhibition which also features archive photos from the show, which is 50 years old this year.

John Lambert, curator of Shipley Focus'd on behalf of Q20 Theatre, said: "Bryan lived in Shipley for over 30 years and was a regular face around the town centre.

"I can't think of a better place to host this exciting exhibition."
