Chance to discover world of locks
The idea is to see at first- hand just what it takes to keep the 200-year old waterways working.
The open day is being held at the famous lock flight on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal on Saturday and Sunday, January 28 and 29, between 10am and 4pm.

Hide AdThe weekend will provide a rare glimpse into the working life of the waterway as visitors get to descend into one of the country’s most famous lock flights, walk along the bottom of the lock and ask questions to staff about how this skilled operation takes place.
Iain Weston, British Waterways’ acting waterway manager for the North West, said: “We care for one of the oldest and finest examples of working industrial heritage in the world – including the third largest collection of listed structures in the UK.
“Therefore, this Open Day at the Five Rise will give the public a chance to get a unique behind the scenes view of the work we do in order to keep the waterways working.”
