Car seized as police team up for crackdown

An uninsured car was seized and a number of tickets issued in a cross-border police operation targeting the outskirts of Bradford and Calderdale.

The operation, which focused on the boundaries between the two districts, was carried out to clamp down on motoring and other offences and was led by special constables from Bradford South division and Calderdale division.

Officers used Automatic Number Plate Recognition Systems to identify offenders.

Gerry Slade, the Bradford South Senior Section Officer for the Specials, said: “Our presence in the area was also a preventative measure in itself and to make clear that we are constantly monitoring the roads.

“We were also checking and stopping vehicles using the Automatic Number Plate Recognition System.

“During the evening, one car was seized for having no insurance, and one person was handed a summons for disqualified driving and having no insurance.

“A ticket was also handed out for using a car without insurance which carried a £200 fine and six points on their licence. Seventeen other tickets were handed out for offences such as speeding and use of a mobile phone which involves three points on their licence and a £60 fine.

“Specials also made five drugs searches and issued a street warning for possession of a class B drug.”

He added: “Our main aim is to provide a co-ordinated response to the people who bring upset and distress to our communities and we will be conducting other similar operations on the other borders of the Bradford South Division.”
