Engineers are on site working to fix the problems but disruption is expected to continue until around 11am.

A spokesman for the Northern operator said: “Please expect cancellations, short notice alterations and major delays on services between Hull and Doncaster until further notice.

“Limited replacement road transport is in place and a train shuttle service will be running between Doncaster and Brough from 0700 to reduce the impact to customers on these services.

“Customers are advised to check their journey before they travel at journeycheck.com/northernrail, by tweeting our team @northernassist or by contacting National Rail Enquiries for updates.

“We are very sorry for any delays this may cause to your journey.”

Services cancelled include the 0752 Hull to Bridlington, the 0900 from Beverley to Doncaster and the 0902 from Hull to York.
