Bonfires still burning issue

Once feared as rallying points for sectarian conflict, the Eleventh night bonfires off the Shankill road in Belfast are still igniting controversy, this time over safety after a blaze destroyed a house in Co Down.

A fire in Newtownards started in a makeshift hut next to a bonfire, with the flames spreading to oil tanks and a car.

The bonfires celebrate the beacons that guided Unionist hero William of Orange's fleet.
