Boiler room scams alert in Yorkshire

MORE than 2,000 people in Yorkshire are to be contacted by the City watchdog after their details were included in a list used by fraudsters trying to sell worthless shares.

The Financial Services Authority is writing to them after recovering a "masterlist" of 38,242 individuals who could be targeted by criminals involved in boiler room scams. Most are based in London and the South East, but more than 2,000 of them are believed to live in Yorkshire.

Boiler room scams involve fraudsters using high-pressure sales tactics to con investors into buying non-tradable, overpriced or even non-existent shares.
