Bionic suit for patients

PARALYSED spinal injury patients in Yorkshire will be the first in the country to use a revolutionary robotic suit to help them walk again if a fundraising drive launched by medics is successful.

The bionic Ekso skeleton suit has motorised joints and specialists at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital said it will support patients in the dedicated Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Unit.

Richard Nuttman, 35, from Sheffield, who lost the use of his legs following a road traffic accident in 2006, has already tested the suit and said: “I am always sceptical before trying anything like this.

“But I was amazed at how easily myself and others got up and started walking. It was easier than using a wheelchair.”
