Beach donkeys to help pull in the crowds at ‘best’ market

CLASSICAL music, cookery demonstrations and donkey rides will all be taking place at “Britain’s best market” this Saturday.

Doncaster Market, which was named the country’s best market at a ceremony in January this year, is set to hold a host of activities to mark both St George’s Day and Easter.

Catering students from Doncaster College will hold a Best of English Cooking demonstration, giving people the chance to taste recipes using fresh ingredients from the market.

Children, meanwhile, will be able to ride on donkeys brought over from Blackpool, or have their faces painted.

A town crier will be giving his proclamation at noon and, in the afternoon, the Doncaster Danum Scout Band and jazz singer Liam Brown will be entertaining shoppers.

Music will also come from acts including classical band Uno Ancora, who will be performing a series of live sets to promote their forthcoming concerts at Doncaster Minster and the Civic Theatre.

Doncaster Council’s director of regeneration and environment, Peter Dale, said: “We have a fantastic line-up of events and entertainment on offer this Saturday and I would encourage everyone to come and visit the markets.”
