Armed police patrol after body find

Armed police were patrolling the suburbs of Manchester last night after a man was found dead following a gun attack and suspected explosion.

Detectives want to speak to Dale Cregan, 29, from Droylsden, Tameside, after the body of a 46-year-old man was found at an address in Folkestone Road East, Clayton. The public was being urged not to approach him but to call police if he was seen.

Police were called to the property shortly after 10.30am following reports of gunshots. Officers also believe an explosion occurred at the scene.

At 10.39am the force received reports that shots had been fired at a second house, in Luke Road, Droylsden, where detectives believe there was also an explosion. Nobody was injured in that incident.

Police said both incidents are thought to be linked and may be connected to the murder of Mark Short at the Cotton Tree Inn in Droylsden on May 25.

Mr Short was shot in the neck after a gunman walked in and opened fire. Cregan is wanted in connection with the murder.
