Arise Sir Brucie

There will be few more popular recipients in the Queen’s Birthday Honours than a man still loved by millions after so many years of service to the entertainment industry.

Well done, too, to Jessica Ennis, Yorkshire’s most outstanding athlete of the current era and so richly deserving of her MBE.

But while Sir Brucie and his fellow celebrities will inevitably grab the headlines, we must look a little further down the list for the day’s most important stories. For it is those previously unsung heroes, such as 84-year-old charity fund-raiser Regina Waldman, who truly reveal all that is great about Britain today.
