Angel Delight model jailed over murder

A former Angel Delight model and his friend were jailed for life yesterday for killing a doctor during a robbery within sight of Buckingham Palace.

Nadim Gulamhuseinwala, 32, was attacked in the early hours of July 25 last year as he walked home through Green Park.

Thomas Connor and William Paton, both 20 and of Orpington, Kent, were found guilty at the Old Bailey of murder and robbery last week.

Connor, who had appeared on the instant whip dessert packet when he was 11, was given a minimum sentence of 25 years.

He struck the doctor on the head with a 10kg cast iron fence pole and stamped on his face. Paton, who searched through the doctor's pockets and stole money, was given a minimum term of 23 years' custody.

The couple spent the money which Paton took on prostitutes.

Both were also given concurrent terms of 10 years' detention for robbery.

Dr Gulamhuseinwala trained as a surgeon before joining City management consultants McKinsey in 2007.

He had been posted to the United States and had flown in from New York just hours before he was killed.

Michael Magarian, defending Connor, said he had been beaten up and that this, and domestic violence at home, had scarred him.

Michael Wolkind, QC, for Paton, said he had not physically attacked the doctor.
