market stallholders are well used to throwing their voices and so a mini-masterclass from Opera North was like teaching grandma to suck eggs.

Acclaimed American tenor Steven Harrison, right, who is currently appearing in Opera North’s Fidelio at Leeds Grand Theatre, exchanged vocal tips with stall owner Neil Gough as part of ‘Shop at Leeds Kirkgate Market Week’.

Mr Harrison was given a few tips himself, learning sales calls from the stallholders.

He transformed a few sales calls into lines from famous operas.

The promotional event was organised by the Friends of Leeds Kirkgate Market, a group of city residents who are campaigning for the market, which they claim is a neglected resource.
