Action taken on environmental blight

Doncaster Council’s zero tolerance approach saw more than 1,100 fixed penalty notices for littering, 4,400 investigations into fly-tipping and enforcement action taken against 75 illegally camped caravans and vehicles for the 12 months from April 1 last year.

The figures come as The Yorkshire Post’s anti-littering campaign. Clean Up Yorkshire, culminated its month of action with Pick Up A Piece Day, which urged everyone to pick up a piece of litter on Tuesday.

Doncaster Council said tackling poorly maintained and unsafe properties remained high on its environmental agenda, with 625 complaints dealt with, and 100 legal notices resulting in improvements being made to the appearance of properties across the borough.

Dog fouling remains a significant issue, with 950 complaints in Doncaster in the last year.

Cabinet member for communities, Coun Chris McGuinness said, “Confronting environmental issues head on is vital to making Doncaster a better place to live.

“We should be proud of our community and I would urge residents to report such crimes. Our continued efforts highlight we are moving in the right direction to tackle environmental crime, through our zero tolerance approach.”
