Pure Gold: Yarnold triumphs at Sochi Olympics

Great Britain won its first gold of the Winter Olympics last night as Lizzy Yarnold slid to glory in Sochi.

The 25-year-old dominated the women’s skeleton event, taking victory by nearly a full second over the four runs. It is Britain’s second Sochi medal and edges Team GB closer to the minimum target of three set by funding body UK Sport. It continues Britain’s dominance in the event, following Amy Williams’ gold in Vancouver and Shelley Rudman’s silver in Turin in 2006.
