Towton Hall’s magnificent 14th century tower with its wattle and daub walls still stands and part of the building dates from 1770 when the First Lord of the Admiralty, Lord Hawke, lived there.

Tom Verity, whose grandfather bought the property, says: “The house is big but it’s comfortable and has a warm and friendly atmosphere.

“It still retains a lot of historic features, including the coat of arms above the door, fireplaces, oak panelled doors and beautiful stained glass.”

He adds: “Over the years, we have done a lot of work to the property including restoration, updating and adding an orangery plus a garage with an annexe above.”

The family’s ownership of the Rockingham Arms in Towton village came about after the pub came under threat of closure in 2009.

“We renovated it, added a conservatory and increased the number of covers to make it viable and it’s a great place,” says Tom.

For those unsure of the location, it couldn’t be better and it is brilliantly located for accessing Leeds, York and Harrogate.

Towton Hall has an entrance hall and three reception rooms, including a 33ft drawing room. There is also a garden room, office, utility and boot rooms, an orangery, cellars and a kitchen/breakfast room with a four oven electric Aga with induction hob.
