Pub Of The Week: The Moor and Pheasant, Dalton

When a pub boasts a refurbishment it is not out of the question to expect a few changes.

At the Moor and Pheasant, Dalton, a few miles south of Thirsk, a total transformation is a more fitting description.

There are glamorous soft furnishings, drapes, swags and high-back banquette seating – and that is just the bar. Cleverly, despite the plush furnishings, a country pub feel still remains throughout .

The immaculate décor continues into the restaurant and to the expansive outside area. The pub has its own caravan park and tent pitches, so on the rare days daring to call themselves summer, I can only image it gets very busy.

This is a place which is very well cared for, it is spotless.

There is a strong emphasis on food at the Moor and Pheasant and their promise “to serve, good, quality food in generous portions at an affordable price” delivers in heaps. Additionally, the food is cooked fresh, the menu though not extensive caters for all, including kids. Plus, there’s sufficient local and regional produce smattered throughout to give it a good Yorkshire feel.

That said, the Moor and Pheasant is also very clearly a pub. There’s always a good range of ales on offer with regulars from Theakstons and Copper Dragon, and a guest ales which on my visit was Yorkshire Terrier from York brewery. Non-beer drinkers can enjoy a good range of affordable wines. They enjoy their good ales so much, they even have their own beer festival.
