On the grapevine

If you enjoy the wines of St Emilion then try to get a ticket for one of the best events of the year, when a number of St Emilion producers visit York on the weekend of April 10 and 11.

This is the Jurade de St Emilion, the historic association which has governed wine production in the region for centuries. There will be a reception at the Lord Mayor's Mansion House followed by a five-course dinner at the Merchant Taylor's Hall, accompanied by several different St Emilion wines. Tickets cost 90, but worth that in wine alone. Contact [email protected].

Judgment Day

If you have been wondering whether to try for a place on my judging panel at the International Wine Challenge, why not do it now?

I am offering one person the chance to see behind the scenes at the world's best wine competition, in London in April. You need to send me an email, briefly giving me details of your wine tasting experience. I am looking for a keen interest in wine, perhaps through membership of a wine society. There is no provision to get you there, nor accommodation. The prize is a place at the Challenge and a rather good lunch.

If you don't have email, then write to: Judgment Day, Michael Hickling, The Yorkshire Post, Wellington Street, Leeds, LS1 1RF by February 27.
