Food Matters: Star role for chef is a treat foodies

DINETRS in Leeds will have the opportunity to sample Michelin Star cuisine without leaving the city this week. Nigel Mendham, head chef at The Samling hotel in Lake Windermere will move into the Harvey Nichols Fourth Floor Café, Leeds, as he celebrates being awarded a Michelin Star for the second consecutive year.

His menu at Harvey Nichols will feature some of his signature dishes including his Herdwick mutton braised shank, navarin root vegetables and pickled cabbage and his Taste of rhubarb from the Yorkshire triangle, crumble, ginger custard and rhubarb ice cream.

Richard Walton Allen, executive chef at Harvey Nichols, Leeds, said: “It is a great experience for the team as well as an opportunity for us to offer our customers a great dining experience.”

The Samling lunch will be available at the Fourth Floor until March 19 , with two courses for £17 and three courses for £20.

Cupcake firm finds new outlet

MAMA DOREEN’S, the Harrogate-based cupcake specialist, has won a listing in national supermarket, ASDA.

The business, which prides itself on creating cupcakes using only local ingredients from Yorkshire, will initially supply five ranges to the Pudsey branch of ASDA.

Mama Doreen’s was initially introduced to the ASDA buyer at the Great Yorkshire Show where the business was exhibiting under the deliciouslyorkshire banner.
