Newby Hall in Yorkshire offering rare chance to become full-time miniature train driver
Newby Hall, near Ripon, has a narrow-gauge railway that boasts 1.2km of track through its stunning gardens along the River Ure which attracts around 50,000 passengers each year.
The home is now recruiting a full-time train driver and engineer to run the popular attraction.

Hide AdThe successful applicant will drive three types of railway engine – steam, battery and gas-powered – and be in charge of train, track and station maintenance. They will also be required to take care of the interactive Tarantella water fountain in the children’s play area.
Stuart Gill, Operations Director at Newby Hall, said: “This is a chance to perhaps turn your hobby or childhood dream into a career, particularly if you feel your job aspirations have been shunted into the sidings.
"We need someone who has a real passion for trains and engineering, preferably with previous relevant experience, and they also need to be great at managing our team of amazing railway volunteers.”
Newby Hall is a Georgian house built in the 1690s under the guidance of Christopher Wren. John Carr remodelled the house in the 18th century, with interiors by Robert Adam and furniture by Chippendale.

Hide AdOwner Richard Compton is the 10th generation of his family to live at Newby. The House and Gardens are open to the public from April to September, attracting around 140,000 visitors each season.
It currently employs a head gardener, 6 full time gardeners and a handful of volunteers, who care for the 25 acres of formal gardens and a further 15 acres of woodland and orchard.
