A ‘breakthrough’ innovative home-use device to treat erectile dysfunction which uses radiofrequency technology is now available in the UK.

Med-Tech start-up Ohh-Med Medical has launched an innovative RF energy technology medical device to trigger collagen renewal and cell rearrangement at the level of the Tunica Albuginea (TA) to improve erectile function.

The device, called Vertica®, is a V-shaped medical device with handles on each side and a hole in the centre where a man is directed to insert his penis. Radiofrequency energy is delivered, which gently ‘warms’ the penis and its inner tissues, triggering a collagen remodelling process. The device is safe for home use and the user can easily control treatment settings. Maximum safety is assured with six built-in thermometers set to monitor skin temperature levels at all times during the treatment.

Vertica, with its unique design, is used at home with three 30-minute treatments per week recommended for the first month. It is then recommended for use twice weekly for another 30 days, with many men experiencing results after just four to six weeks.

Fabio Castiglione, Consultant Urologist and Andrologist at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Associate Professor at the University College London (UCL), said: “Vertica is a revolutionary idea and, based on the results of the small clinical trial, one that promises to be potentially life-changing for men suffering with ED.

“The device is the first in the medical scenario to treat the outflow and not just the inflow and is a creditable alternative solution to other available treatments which are designed to improve the erectile mechanism.

“In addition, Vertica is drug-free, suitable for home use, with long-lasting results as, in some cases, users are stating they are seeing results after only four to six weeks of use.”

How it works

The revolutionary product was developed by urologists and experts in radiofrequency technology. The Vertica treatment relies on the use of low frequency radio waves delivered to the penis and targeted to the TA to improve the function of the erectile tissue. This helps ‘trap’ the blood, decreasing the leakage from the penis and improving the erectile mechanism for a sustained period.

Vertica is supported by efficacy and safety data from a pilot clinical study published by the peer-reviewed International Journal of Impotence Research – a medical journal which covers the study of sexual dysfunction. The results, based on 28 participants who had ED for at least six months, demonstrated that the utilisation of RF energy improved erectile function and erectile quality among participants with more than an 85 per cent success rate, without any side effects.

Vertica is intended for use by men of all ages experiencing erectile difficulties and is registered with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the UK. Vertica includes a special accessory to treat deeper tissue, a charger, a case, and conductive gel, and is available for £1,500 on the Vertica website.

Ohh-Med Medical founder Daniel Lischinsky said: “Vertica is a safe and easy-to-use, non-invasive medical device, designed to improve erectile dysfunction in the long-term. It is not a medication; no prescription is required and there are no side effects. Vertica has been reported as safe and is driven by scientific data.

“Vertica addresses a significant unmet need in the male sexual health market for an effective and long-lasting solution that actually treats the root cause of erectile dysfunction, rather than just the symptom. It improves male self-esteem and confidence by supporting a full and active sex life.”
