Obama advisor: Wakefield Girls’ guest speaker
Joining them live from Philadelphia, USA, on Wednesday, March 17, will be Dr Marisa Porges, an expert in the fields of education, leadership and national security, and who wrote the book What Girls Need: How to Raise Bold, Courageous and Resilient Women.
Parents of girls of all ages in Wakefield and wider Yorkshire can sign up here for this free event, which will show them how to help set their daughter on the road to success in adulthood.
Dr Porges, is currently the head of Baldwin School, a 130-strong girls school which has a proven track record of producing leaders and change makers. A former alumna of the school herself, prior to returning to head the school Dr Porges was a counter terrorism and national security expert, and a senior policy advisor to Barack Obama.
Her talk, which is open to all parents of girls, will include how parents can help their daughters including the key skills that are most critical for girls to develop to succeed in the decades ahead.
Ms Heidi-Jayne Boyes, Head at Wakefield Girls’ High School said: “We are absolutely delighted to be joined by Dr Porges at the event, her research andbook ‘What Girls Need’ include all those wider, crucial values, skills and attributes that we work to develop in all our students. We hope many parentswill join us with Dr Porges to hear how they can help their daughters succeed as adult women.”
The event, entitled “What Girls Need: preparing your daughter for any future she imagines”, will cover topics including:
● How to help girls thrive personally and professionally.
● The important things that will help your daughter succeed as an adult woman, whatever the challenges she faces.
● Key skills your daughter can develop and how they work together to create powerful outcomes.
● Ways you can help your daughter now.
