Ed Balls visits web-wise school

SHADOW Chancellor Ed Balls will visit a primary school in his constituency tomorrow to see how it is using an on-line communications system to keep children’s parents informed.

Morley Newlands Primary School has signed up to a system which was developed by a parent who found it difficult to keep up to date with events at his son’s school because the only form communication was letters which could get lost in his son’s bag.

Scholabo was set up by Brent Thurrell, who is based in Leeds, to improve links between parents and primary schools. So far 42 primary schools in Yorkshire have signed up to it since it was launched 12 months ago.

Adrian Stygall, head teacher at Morley Newlands, said: “This system allows teachers to share information and resources quickly with the parents of the children in their classes.

“If a child has not taken their homework home, the parent can look it up on Scholabo. Likewise details of a school visit.”
