Authority retains place as star performer

The district’s schools and colleges had an average student point score equivalent to more than three A grades each.

Tables are compiled showing each council area’s A level performances.

Kirklees’ average A-level candidate point score was 823.6 for the 2012 exams, behind only Reading, Sutton and Trafford in a national table of 150 education authority areas.

The scores are worked out by giving an A* 300 points, an A 270, a B 240, a C 210, a D 180 and an E 150.

Kirklees not only retained its place as the top performing authority in Yorkshire but also moved up two places in the national table from last year.

Heckmondwike Grammar, a converter academy, and Greenhead College, a large sixth form college in Huddersfield, were once again Kirklees’ star performers at A-level.

The school had an average A-level point score of 1195.1 which made it again the best in Yorkshire while Greenhead College, had an average point score of 1038.1.

Greenhead had 874 students sitting A-levels last summer – more than 10 times the number in some sixth forms.

North Yorkshire was the second highest-ranked authority from the region, placed 10th in the national table for average A-level point scores.

Its students had an average point score of 785.2 – the equivalent of just over two As and a B.
