Yorkshire role in KPMG choice

KPMG has chosen its new UK chairman and senior partner – with a little help from Yorkshire.

The Big Four accountancy firm said Simon Collins, the global head of transactions and restructuring group, will take over on October 1 following the retirement of John Griffith-Jones.

Iain Moffatt, senior partner at KPMG’s office in Leeds, chaired the committee which managed the selection process.

The process culminated in a series of presentations by the shortlisted candidates at an event in London involving all the UK partners, prior to the opening of voting.

Mr Griffith-Jones said: “I am delighted that Simon will be taking over from me in October.

“He has received a clear mandate from the partnership and I am sure that under his leadership the firm has a bright future.

“Simon has already proven himself to be a fine partner and leader, greatly respected by his peers, clients and industry alike.

“At a time of regulatory uncertainty for our profession, I am certain that Simon will provide the strong and clear leadership needed in order to move the firm forward into the future.”

Mr Collins, 51 and from London, added: “I am delighted and greatly honoured to have been elected by my fellow partners to lead the firm.

“The world remains uncertain and troubled, but the talent, energy and integrity of our people gives me huge confidence that we can build on the great legacy of John’s leadership and the proud history of our firm.”

He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1986. He joined the firm from NatWest in 1998.
