Unisurf finds right formula for buy-in

A YORKSHIRE-based engineering company with links to Formula 1 is poised for rapid expansion after a management buy-in.

Sheffield-based Castle Square Corporate Finance has advised local entrepreneur Lee Speight on the buy-in of Unisurf Engineering, which is based in Bradford.

A spokesman for Castle Square said: "Lee is well known in the engineering sector with a sound track record of delivering profitable growth, having developed a number of manufacturing businesses, including turnarounds, from substantial losses to profit."

Unisurf Engineering is a specialist in the field of surface technology and precision engineering. It provides services for a wide range of sectors including Formula 1, the newspaper industry and sewage treatment works. Its customers include News International and Sulzer Pumps.

The company has 15 staff and a turnover of 1.2m.

Kevan Shaw of Castle Square Corporate Finance said: "We have been working with Lee for some time and it is very satisfying to have found a first class business to suit Lee's talents.

"I know he will take every opportunity to develop this business. The deal demonstrates that the Yorkshire deal market is still very much open for business."

Legal advice was provided by Lupton Fawcett's Sheffield team led by Adrian Hackett. The Castle Square team led negotiations with John Davis of Venture Finance's Yorkshire team to provide a finance package to help Mr Speight realise the full potential of the business. Mr Speight said: "This is something that I have been working towards for some time."
