Rural homes get superfast broadband

A HOUSING development yesterday became the first in North Lincolnshire to benefit from the Government’s roll out of superfast broadband to rural areas.

More than 120 homes and businesses in the Water’s Edge area near Brigg will be joined by another 6,000 across North and North East Lincolnshire, in the next five months.

The plan is that over 92 per cent of people in North Lincolnshire will be able to access fibre broadband speeds by 2015, with the remaining “hard-to-reach” addresses getting faster speeds by 2017.

Brigg and Goole MP Andrew Percy said broadband was “almost as important as electricity and gas.”

He said: “Superfast broadband is essential for people who work from home. We know rural areas pay more in taxes and get less in services - this is a way of bridging the gap.”
