Rolls extends nuclear deal with French

Engineering giant Rolls-Royce has extended its partnership with French nuclear group Areva to develop new nuclear projects, building on a joint venture dating back to 2008.

The agreement includes manufacturing of complex components for nuclear power stations and will lead to the development of a joint plan to meet the demand for the first new nuclear reactors to be built in the UK since the completion of Sizewell B in 1995.

In a separate development, Areva has signed a new collaborative agreement with the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Rotherham to identify and support UK manufacturing companies which can supply Areva’s projects in the UK and overseas.

The Nuclear AMRC will act as an entry way for companies which do not have an existing relationship with Areva.

Initial identification of potential suppliers will be carried out through the Nuclear AMRC’s new Fit For Nuclear programme.
