Q for quality as butcher named chairman of the national Guild

Yorkshire-born Mr Addy, who owns and manages J Brindon Addy Butchers in Hade Edge, Holmfirth, has been involved with the Q Guild for over 13 years. He joined in 1998, was elected chairman of the north-east in 2005 and national vice-chair in 2010.

He said: “The Q Guild has played a major role in the success of my business over the last decade. The unique network and infrastructure it provides has proved invaluable, while the open exchange of advice and ideas between like-minded business owners has helped me build Addy’s butchers into the business it is today.”

Established in 1986, The Q Guild represents independent meat retailers in Britain.

Mr Addy takes over the reins from Cumbrian butcher Philip Cranston, who has chaired the Q Guild for seven years. He said: “Brindon has taken an active role in the guild over the last few years. His appointment is well deserved. His passion for quality meat and the craftsmanship he demonstrates through his own business underpins all that the Q Guild stands for. He is a valuable asset to the organisation.”

Mr Addy started his career in the meat industry by joining a local butchers as a Saturday lad at the age of 11. He went on to study meat technology at Thomas Danby College, Leeds, and then spent time as a trainee manager at a local bacon factory. Mr Addy established Addy’s Butchers in Hade Edge in 1993.
